It’s important to include ?rel=author after the link to your profile because this will tell enable Google to connect your articles and web content to your Google+ profile, otherwise the authorship will not work. The next step is to link back the websites that you contributed to, in your Google+ profile by simply editing the Contributor to section of your profile and adding the websites’ URL as a custom link. After these steps have been completed, you can paste the URL of your article in Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool to see if it was correctly implemented and can be verified by Google.
